Dread is a Gift

Feeling dread is a sign from your spirit guides and the universe that you are off path. Do not ignore the feeling of dread or bad things will happen. Let’s look at dread more closely.

Do you feel dread when you get up for work in the morning? Do you dread going to your job?

Do you feel dread when you’re driving home after work and have to face your spouse or partner? Do you drive around the block a few extra times to prepare yourself to deal with an unhappy home life? Or simply to delay the inevitable?

Do you feel dread when you think about your day? Your future? An upcoming speech? A presentation at work? A date with your girlfriend? Sales calls?

Dread is a clairsentient sensation inside your body that is basically telling you, “Stop, you’re going the wrong way. This way be trouble. This isn’t your ideal path. You’ve gone off the rails. These aren’t the droids you’re looking for.”

But dread is awesome precisely because it IS a sign. It’s feedback from the universe. It’s there to clue you in to the fact that you are not happy about something in your life. Dread is not something to be tolerated. Dread is not something you want to ignore. Dread is a wakeup call. It’s a gift.

When you feel dread about anything, stop and assess your situation.

Is this a temporary dread like you are dreading making a presentation or going to the dentist?

Or is this an ongoing permanent dread like, “If I have to spend one more day at this job I will shoot myself?”

Try to identify exactly what you’re dreading. Then ask yourself these questions:

  • Have I simply outgrown this situation?
  • Is it time to move on?
  • Can I take control of the situation and make it better?
  • Can I move laterally into something I would enjoy more?
  • If I end this relationship will I feel relieved?
  • If I get this handled will I then feel good about the situation?

Sometimes you have to let go of something completely, just say “I’m out. I’m done.” If you feel a sense of relief just thinking about quitting, that’s a sign that you should do it.

But sometimes a situation just needs an adjustment.

I’ll give you an example from my own life about dread and how I used it to adjust course.

In 2006 I started my blog and I started doing readings shortly thereafter. I was so excited to wake up every morning and do readings. I’d sometimes do 8-12 readings a day. And I’d blog sometimes 3 days a week.

As the years passed, however, I started to notice this feeling of dread when I thought about doing readings and blogging.

I checked in with myself. I still loved giving readings. And I still loved writing. So why was I feeling dread?

It took me a little bit of time to realize that what I was feeling was a need to expand, and doing so many readings and writing so many articles was actually preventing me from having the time to expand the way I wanted to.

I felt like I owed it to my readers to keep blogging like a fiend and to keep doing readings every day of the week.

But a wise friend told me, “Do what you want to do. People will adjust.”

So I cut back on the number of blog posts I did, and I cut back on the number of readings I allowed myself to do each week.

Suddenly I had space. I could breathe. There was air!!

And in that space, I was able to expand. I started doing professional intuitive trainings. I created an audio program. In short order I also did a couple of workshops, a couple of teleseminars, created more products, and even wrote a book on astral projection which I thought I’d never have time to get to.

And I was still blogging and still doing readings. I was just doing them when I wanted to, not when I had to.

And the dread left. I was on track again. I was excited to get to work each day.

So ask yourself… what is causing you dread? What is the dread trying to tell you? What do you need to do more of or less of to be happy? How could you change or adjust your trajectory so that you’re in sync again with your path?

Your path is your own to create. Dread is the clue that you are off course. Make adjustments and keep on going.
