Happy Anniversary, Steve

Today Steve and I are celebrating our 9 year wedding anniversary (13 years together total).  Steve and I met due to a synchronicity.  I was reading a romance novel and the main character was named Adam Savage.  Right after I finished the novel, I logged on to my favorite local BBS called Dreamscape.  I noticed a user online whose handle was “Savage” so I popped off a quick private message to him that said, “Hello.  I just got finished reading all about you in my romance novel.”  Of course he was very confused and that started a dialog.  When I read his bio I was utterly amazed at the answers he gave to simple questions.  Most of the people on the board were young, a wee bit immature, and certainly not very deep.  I was very attracted to Steve’s intelligence.

We began hanging out together online.  He joined my Star Trek role playing adventure that I was running (yes I’m a female geek and a Trekkie and proud of it!).  We started chatting on the phone and three hours would go by and I wouldn’t even notice.  He was the most fascinating individual I’d ever spoken to.  We talked about everything and shared our deepest, most personal secrets.

After about 3 months of chatting online we finally decided we should meet.  He invited me over to his apartment to discuss lucid dreaming.  When I got there I remember seeing this blond haired, blue eyed young man coming to open the gate for me.  He had a huge smile on his face and I wore one as well.  We connected in that moment and I remember thinking to myself, “I wonder if I just met the man I will someday marry.”  Steve had listed all of his questions about lucid dreaming on a small piece of paper and proceeded to interview me about the topic.  He went quite in depth; he wanted to know everything.  I stayed so long I was almost late for my new job, but I left on cloud nine.  Steve was the coolest, most interesting, most intelligent individual I had ever met.

It didn’t take long for our relationship to blossom.  We spent hours together.  He would often come over in the mornings before I went to work and we’d talk.  Then we’d make dinner together in the evening and talk until we fell asleep.  At work I counted the minutes when I would see him next.

We got married 4 years to the day after we’d met.  We had wanted a medieval wedding, complete with armor and jousting, but it wasn’t in the cards.  Perhaps someday. 😉

My journey with Steve has been utterly amazing.  There have been rough patches, and we’ve certainly overcome our share of challenges.  And there were times when I thought I must be the luckiest woman on earth to be married to such a unique individual.  I know I wouldn’t be where I am today if I hadn’t met Steve.  He taught me how to grow, and helped me find the courage to follow my passion and reconnect with my purpose.  For that, I will be forever grateful.

To my darling husband… you have all of my love and devotion.  Thank you for being a truly wonderful companion, and sharing life’s journey with me.  I look forward to the coming years and all that we will experience together.  When you smile at me, I can see that our souls are still dancing.

Love,

Erin
