Question: What’s the first step? I occasionally read Steve’s blog and followed the link to yours. How does someone get started to have a shift in consciousness to lead a fuller life? I can’t find how to begin. – Roy
Answer:
You’ve already begun. You’ve taken your first step already. You’ve decided that the life you’re leading now is not fulfilling to you anymore. Acknowledging that within yourself is a huge step; one that most people will never take.
Now you need to get your life moving in the direction that you really want to go. First you need to figure out what kind of life you want to lead. Then you need to figure out how to start leading that life.
A good exercise for that first step is to imagine you’re at the end of your ideal life. What became of you? What sort of work did you do? Who were you married to? What are your children like? What difference did your life make to the world? And most importantly, how do you feel about yourself in this ideal life? Now back track from there. What would you have to do today to get to that life tomorrow? Would you need to change careers? Find a new relationship? Think a different way? Make different decisions? Behave differently?
To lead a fuller life you must design your life, consciously.
Get in touch with your higher self because he has all the answers you’re looking for. Allow your intuition to guide you in making decisions. Use your heart instead of your head for a while and see what happens. Hold tight to the image of yourself at the end of your ideal life and ask yourself, “What would THAT guy do in this situation?”
To help you get in touch with your higher self, try meditation. Read these two articles to get you going:

You’re on the right track, Roy. Keep following the thread and see where it takes you. Hold the intention to live a fuller life and to bring consciousness into your life, and it will come. Hang around other people who are living their lives consciously too, like Steve and me. Before you know it, you’ll be shifting all over the place, and you’ll be leaving the old Roy far behind.
